Pastors, Staff & Elders

Brian Metzger

Lead Pastor

Brian has been the lead pastor at RV since August 2012.  He and Donna have been married (to each other) for 37 years. They have 3 adult children and two daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, three granddaughters, one grandson, and a grandcat. Brian enjoys stories (listening to them and telling them), movies, comics and theology (not necessarily in that order). He loves Jesus and his heart is to see the Church become a healthy, relational outpost of heaven here on the earth. Brian's influences include C.S. Lewis, Scot McKnight, Greg Boyd, Stanley Hauerwas, Doctor Who and Jonathan Goldstein. If you are around RV very long you'll hear him say, "a belief without a practice is just wishful thinking."

Mary Bunch

Associate Pastor

Mary has been the associate pastor at RV since January 2021. Her focus is intergenerational formation and leads both the children’s and young adult ministries.  She and her husband Corey are high school sweethearts and have been married since June 1999. They have two creative and amazing sons.  Mary received her BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 (Go Tarheels!) and graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2020 with a Master of Theology and Ministry.  Mary has had the opportunity to work and volunteer in a variety of ministry roles over the years with children, students, and young adults including serving as a children’s ministry coordinator. She is passionate about church community and leadership, mentoring students and young adults, and ongoing theological learning.  Mary enjoys spending time with her family and friends, savoring good coffee or a nice glass of wine, and all things British television.  She would love nothing more than meeting with new friends to talk about life and faith over a cup of joe.

Jason Phillips

Worship Pastor

Jason has served RV as our worship pastor since June of 2015. He and NiCole married in 2000 and they parent 3 amazing children along with a little rescue pup. Jason has served on staff with churches since the late 90’s, pastoring in worship and creative arts. He is a 2008 graduate of the Vineyard Leadership Institute and served with a few church plants in both Georgia and North Carolina. Jason loves songwriting, especially with the local church expression. In the Fall of 2018 he co-wrote the song “Be Still” with Casey Corum at a writer’s retreat. It was later picked up by Vineyard Worship and released on 3 different worship projects the following year. He values the gut-wrenchingly sad songs of real life, heartfelt laments, as well as the fist-pumping, shouting anthems of joy and celebration. He loves good food and conversation with friends new and old… especially if music-making is involved. Most of all he loves Jesus, family, community and how the gospel and the kindness of Jesus make all of these beautiful treasures in life even that much better.

Grant Woody

Youth Pastor

Grant joined our team in January of 2016.  He leads our youth team working with our middle and high school students.  Grant was born and raised in North Carolina and married his wife Trilby in 2018, two decades after becoming best friends at six years old.  Grant and Trilby have two boys at home, Henry and Cooper, and a daughter, River.  In 2013, Grant received his BA in Human Service Studies from Elon University and has since worked as a social worker in schools, group homes, and community outreach organizations. Grant grew up attending a Vineyard church, and he deeply values the building of community and relationships with youth and families. Grant loves to landscape, go fishing, and to spend time on the porch with as many people as can fit.  He is passionate about listening to the Spirit and walking alongside young people and families as they navigate through the hardships and celebrations that life brings.

Eva Waithe

Pastoral care

Miss Eva was born on the island of Trinidad and Tobago in the West Indies. She is the mother of three children, two girls and one boy,   and grandmother to seven. Miss Eva enjoys going to thrift shops just to speak to and encourage people. Before settling in Raleigh, she lived in several places in the U.S.: New York, Phoenix, Maui, and Wilmington, North Carolina. Living in these different places allowed her to have an opportunity to learn and appreciate the different cultures and values of the people.
Miss Eva taught in public schools as a special education educator and then at Raleigh Vineyard Church as the children ministry’s administrator for ten years. Currently, Miss Eva oversees our Pastoral Care, providing love, prayers and attention to those who are going through difficulties, illnesses, and life transitions. She leads a team of caring people who work together to meet the needs of families and individuals here at RVC. Miss Eva’s favorite pastime is being in her prayer closet spending quiet time alone with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
